Why It’s An Investment: The Hermes Birkin is the most coveted handbag (and hardest to acquire) in the world. It was created in 1984 and named after the celebrity Jane Birkin, whom Hermes Chief Executive Jean-Louis Dumas sat next to on a flight from Paris to London. Birkin handbags are said to be a better investment than stocks and shares. They will only appreciate in value, which is why we recommend investing in one. The only problem? You have to get a hold of one.
Characteristics: This Birkin has tonal stitching, a front toggle closure, a clochette with lock and two keys, and double rolled handles. The interior is lined with matching leather and has one zip pocket with an Hermes-engraved zipper pull, and an open pocket on the opposite side.
The Birkin is immediately recognizable by its undemanding shape. It is an outstanding piece of workmanship, where each bag takes at least 48 hours to produce. Each is hand sewn, buffed, painted and polished by an Hermes skilled craftsman in Hermes' factories.
