Why It’s An Investment: The Hermes Constance was introduced in 1959 and instantly became an Hermes Iconic piece. It is named Constance after the fifth child of the designer at the time, Catherine Chaillet, who ended up leaving Hermes shortly after giving birth to her daughter . Relatively simple in design with a front flap, large H metal closure, gusseted sides and adjustable shoulder strap, the Constance is understated elegance. It can be worn casually, as well as to dinner or cocktails. The classic Constance was made of box leather and in the 23cm or 18cm size. The Constance has not changed much in style; most notably the strap has been lengthened so it can be worn cross body or on the shoulder. Today, the Constance is available in four sizes, Micro (14cm), Mini (18cm), 24cm and Elan (a 25cm more rectangular version introduced in 2010). Today, Constance handbags are often proving to be more difficult to find than Birkins and Kellys. When available, they can be found in a variety of leathers and exotic skins in classic and seasonal colors.
